Thanks to your support OpenMedia.ca is releasing new public engagement tools today, the likes of which have never before been used in an election. The first of these tools lets YOU and other Canadians pledge to vote for the Internet by calling on local politicians to become "pro-Internet candidates". Find it here: http://VoteNet.ca Candidates can sign up to become pro-Internet candidates at http://openmedia.ca/candidate. As you know, recent reports have revealed that big telecom companies are now charging upwards of $10 a gigabyte of data when it costs them only a penny to provide it. This is gouging, pure and simple. Let's not put up with this anymore. The stranglehold big phone and cable companies have on communications is stifling Canada’s economy, global competitiveness, free expression and our personal budgets. We are falling behind. Even before these new fees, Canadians were paying much more for Internet and phone services than almost any country in the industrialized world. Right now we have a historic opportunity to stop Big Telecom's price gouging and to take back our Internet. The first step is to ensure that our newly elected MPs are committed to promoting an open and affordable Internet as they arrive in Ottawa. Be among the first to pledge to vote for the Internet by sending a letter to candidates at http://VoteNet.ca. Elections should be about issues not personality clashes and platitudes. Let's do our part by putting the future of the Internet on the agenda. Join almost half-a-million Canadians and make open Internet a federal election issue. Click HERE to get started.
